Strengthening Latvia’s HORECA Sector through Energy Efficiency training

The Latvian training cycle of the EnergyEfficiency4HORECA (EE4HORECA) project has reached an important milestone, with 100 companies and 120 professionals from Latvian SMEs completing the full programme by February 2026.

Coordinated by the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the training cycle strengthened the HORECA value chain’s knowledge of energy efficiency solutions, practical tools, and sustainable energy management approaches.

The programme consisted of five thematic modules:

1. Basic Principles of Energy Efficiency
Participants were introduced to core energy efficiency principles, sector challenges, and practical steps to reduce energy consumption.

2. Practical Energy Efficiency Solutions in HORECA Companies
This module focused on everyday operational improvements that reduce costs and enhance sustainability. The session included an experience-sharing discussion with hotel representatives about sustainability certification.

3. How to Finance Energy Efficiency Improvements
Participants received an overview of financial instruments and support programmes available through ALTUM.

4. Benefits of Energy Management in the HORECA Sector
During a face-to-face seminar in Kurzeme, participants explored energy consumption analysis, monitoring solutions, and structured energy management practices, gaining practical tools for implementation.

5. Value Chain Approach and Sustainability Panel Discussion
The final module concluded the training cycle with a discussion on sector development trends, challenges, and the practical business benefits of sustainability for HORECA entrepreneurs.

The Latvian training cycle demonstrated strong engagement from SMEs and highlighted the growing importance of energy efficiency in the HORECA sector. By combining practical tools, financial guidance, and peer exchange, the programme has equipped participants with knowledge they can directly apply in their daily operations, contributing to more resilient and competitive businesses.
