EE4HORECA Success Stories: modernising energy use while preserving tradition

Restaurant La Pastora is located in Vacarisses, province of Barcelona, Spain, in the heart of the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park. With a small team of six employees, the restaurant offers Catalan cuisine in a unique natural environment, combining traditional gastronomy, hospitality and a strong connection with the surrounding territory.

The restaurant operates in an old building with significant thermal needs and uses electricity as its main energy source. As part of its commitment to improving energy performance, La Pastora has implemented an aerothermal system for building heating.  The investment, estimated at EUR 40,000, is expected to generate energy savings of between 30% and 50%, reducing the electricity consumption associated with heating and improving the overall efficiency of the facility.

La Pastora shows how a small HORECA business can take concrete steps to modernise its energy systems while preserving the value of its location and customer experience. The use of aerothermal technology also demonstrates the potential of heat pump-based solutions in restaurants located in older buildings, where energy demand for heating can be significant.

La Pastora participated in the EE4HORECA training modules as well as in the February event organised within the project framework. Thanks to its participation, La Pastora got a better understanding of potential improvements, learned from technical guidance and best practices, and will continue developing an energy-efficiency-oriented management approach.
